Sweater Weather

Sejour Button DownGoing to the movies has always been a past time of mine and, on Wednesday, I had the opportunity to see an early screening of Dirty Grandpa.  The movie captures the relationship between a somewhat estranged grandson (Zac Efron) and his grieving grandfather (Robert De Niro) during a road trip from Georgia to Florida. I was laughing the entire time, but fair warning – it is pretty crude and not something I would go see with my actual Grandpa. When going to the movies, I always try to bundle up because I always get cold (I’m the one that goes to the movies in a sweatshirt and UGGs when it’s 100+ degrees outside). This sweater combo is perfect for easily going from dinner to the movies….or for running errands this weekend!

When it comes to layering, I’ve always steered clear because I thought it added more bulk to areas where I don’t want to add more bulk. But, recently, I made the decision to try and layer again….let me tell you, I am obsessed. I love the depth of colors and variety that it provides. The most important thing I have learned about layering is choosing the right fabrics. In this outfit, I found that it was important to choose thinner fabrics. The button down has a lot of movement and is a thin fabric and the sweater is on the lighter side – definitely not a sweater that can be worn when it’s negative degrees out, but is perfect for the 60 degree weather we are having in Houston. Paired with some classic skinny jeans, I feel comfortable (and warm) while still looking a bit polished and put together.

This look is meant to be casual, so I kept the accessories simple – my Leopard Tieks and a small black cross-body. I am a firm believer that Leopard is a neutral and find any reason to add a bit of it to my outfits (examples here and here). To dress this up for a dinner out, I would add a statement necklace (this one would be perfect) or maybe some black Kendra Scott earrings, trade out my flats for some black heeled booties (currently on my wish list) and add swipe on some crimson lipstick.

I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend! It is a little quieter on my front, but these kinds of weekends end up being some of my favorite because they are spontaneous or relaxing – either way it’s a win-win.  If you aren’t already, make sure to follow SGSB on Instagram (@EmilySGSB) for some fun behind the scenes photos!

  3. Cute look! I am always scared of layering too, bulkage= yuk. I recently did it with a thin long silky tank from Loft and put it under a shorter sweater, and I loved it! I need to experiment more. 🙂
