It always seems like Mondays arrive quicker and quicker each week. Anyone else feel like their weekend was super short? After a pretty quiet couple of weekends, this one turned out to be super crazy. Between attending a family event all day Saturday to running errands, working out and getting my nails done yesterday, the weekend just flew by… It was almost like I blinked on Friday night and woke up to my 4AM alarm this morning.
It can be so easy to feel the Monday blues, so I figured why not lean into it and wear all blue (otherwise known as my favorite color) for today’s blog post. Monochromatic looks have been all over the stores (and the runways) this past year and I am loving it! You may have seen me take advantage of it at NYFW in September in my Lavender Eloquii Suit and I knew it wouldn’t be long before I tried to create a monochromatic outfit again.
And what better way to wear it, than in my favorite color? 🙂
The outfit inspiration all started when I saw this vibrant bag. I wanted to build an outfit to help make it shine. After taking a look in my closet, I knew I could pair this teal velvet skirt from a couple seasons ago and my timeless J. Crew cocoon jacket together to create most of the outfit. The only thing missing was a blue top. With the weather all over the place, a lightweight turtleneck was the perfect piece to purchase to fulfill all my monochromatic dreams.
When I first started wearing this trend, I totally thought it was intimidating. After wearing it a few times, I guarantee you that it is totally not! (It’s honestly easier than trying to match some colors together). If you are still hesitant, here’s a few little tips I’ve learned throughout my journey with the trend. First, I would recommend starting with a color or piece that you want to build around (like I did with the purse). Then I would start finding similar shades with various textures to build dimension. Ultimately, I think this is the golden rule to wearing a monochromatic outfit – you need the various types of fabric to help break up the same color family and bring your outfit to life. Add a few fun accessories from similar color families (e.g. warm colors with warm colors, cool colors with cool colors) and then just rock it!
Have you tried the monochromatic trend? What color did you wear head to toe? Let me know in the comments!
