From Work to Play

How is it Friday already?? I had such a blast in NYC for Full Figured Fashion Week and The Curvy Con ! I loved meeting so many amazing women and the brands helping to dress this curvy lady! hehe! 😀 Vacation is fantastic for so many reasons and I loved that I was able to spend the week in NYC (aka. one of my most favorite cities), but I was exhausted coming back home. The cliche, I need a vacation from my vacation, was so true in my case. So apologies for being a little absent from SGSB this week, I have been catching up on emails, laundry and sleep….and to add to the amazing adventures of the month of June, I headed up to Cleveland yesterday to celebrate with one of my college roommates on her upcoming nuptials!

Tonight is her bridal shower and guess what will be making it’s like 4th appearance in a little over a week (the first few appearances – work, brunch, the Gwynnie Bee VIP party at the Curvy Con)  – yep, it would be this dress! I may be obsessed! It is the perfect multi-taking dress easily going from work to play. It works in almost every environment because of the fun yet subtle print and the classic silhouette with a modern twist of the flared sleeves.

One of my favorite work hacks is to have an adorable clutch in my tote bag, so I can easily go from the office to the bar. I think my GiGi New York clutch one of my favorite bags to lug along with all my work essentials because it is adorable, goes with everything and doesn’t take up too much space (essential when you don’t have a desk and carry around all the thing you need for the day in your tote)!

Ok, so back to the Gwynnie Bee VIP Party during the Curvy Con! It was so much fun!!! We met at the Curvy Con venue (in NYC) and traveled to the Gwynnie Bee headquarters in Long Island City in style (aka. a party bus). And let me tell you….we had some Rose in plastic wine glasses (with lids – essential on a bus trying to navigate the NYC traffic) and a fabulous dance party playlist! In about 40 minutes, we made it to HQ and were escorted into one of the coolest elevators ever – it was bigger than the size of my kitchen and living room combined and it was painted in this cool green and yellow mod podge-esque finish! Once we got inside the warehouse, we were greeted with more wine, lots of delicious appetizers and some great beats from the DJ. They also had not 1 but 2 photo booths and a runway show! To close out the night, we all walked the runway and then finished the night with a dance party! Overall, it was a great time to meet new ladies, talk with the employees of Gwynnie Bee about the service and our experience, and just enjoy being curvy!

If you haven’t heard of Gwynnie Bee before, it is like Netflix for clothes sizes 10-32. You can favorite (or add items to your virtual closet) items you would like to be sent to you and you can keep the items in your real life closet for as long as you would like. Once you have worn them, you can send them back (dirty and all – GB will wash/dry clean all pieces for you) and they will send you more pieces to wear. Or if you feel like you cannot live without a piece, you have the option to purchase it at a discounted rate. It is such a great concept, especially when you want to try out new brands or love to mix up your wardrobe (me!me!me!). I found the service to be especially helpful for work clothes and I am really excited for the Rachel Antenoff’s exclusive collection for GB, which we previewed at the VIP party! Lots of fun fruit prints and great casual pieces which will make a statement. If you would like to try out Gwynnie Bee, they offer a 30 day trial for all new members and you can sign up here!!

I hope y’all have a fabulous weekend! I will try and remember to post photos on Insta and Snapchat (@EmilySGSB) – I sometimes “lose my mind” (in a good way) when I get with my besties, so we will see how it all unfolds! If you aren’t already and feel inclined, I would love for you to follow me on Facebook  to see when a new post is live or other things I love!

  1. So awesome that you got to go to curvy con! I totally understand needing a vacation from a vacation. I usually try to take off an extra day from work to enjoy just being at home.

Curvy Con was an amazing time! I wish that there was as much love and support in the world as what I experienced during the conference! That is such a great idea, Meghan! I should totally try and do that more often! 😀
