An Amazing Way to Spend a Saturday

Hey Friends! Full disclosure, I was invited to attend the World Golf Championships – Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament at no cost to me. All opinions are my own.

My Dad enrolled my brother and I in golf lessons when we were in elementary school and I grew up playing the game with him on the weekends, I played in middle school and am so thankful that I now know how to play to be able to network with my colleagues and clients. When the PGA tour invited my dad and I to attend the World Golf Championships, Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament in Austin, Texas a few weekends ago, I was really excited to be able to enjoy a day at the course with my Dad while getting to see some of our favorite players (cough…cough…Bubba Watson – who actually won the tournament).

Since we had such an amazing time at the World Golf Championships, I wanted to talk about our experience in Austin and why I believe everyone should go to a golf tournament at least one. (Psst….Father’s Day is quickly approaching and going to a golf tournament close to you would be a great way to spend time with your Dad).

Why are the World Golf Championships tournament so much fun?

You get to see some pretty amazing golfers playing at their absolute best!

By the time we arrived on Saturday, the top 8 golfers from the previous days of the tournament were the only ones left. Luckily for us, there were a few players we really enjoy following on the tour that we tracked along the course to se them play. The Match Play Tournament is a little different than a traditional golf tournament because they play in pairs and whoever has the lowest score for a particular hole wins that hole and earns a point. Whoever ends up with the most points at the end of the round wins and moves on to the next round in the tournament. Going on Saturday was perfect because we got to experience two different rounds and see players’ personalities on the course. For example, Bubba Watson was extremely chill – even when he landed in the ruff and did’t have a great shot. He calmly asked people to watch out because he was planning to hit in a certain direction. I think it was these little moments that I loved seeing in person because I typically don’t catch them on TV.

There is a lot more to do at the World Golf Championships tournament than just watching golf!

In addition to following the action on the course, there were so many other things to do a the Tournament. First (and one of my favorites parts), was the amazing food and drinks you can indulge in while there. At the Dell Technologies Match Play Tournament, they had an amazing selection of local food vendors, including Torchy’s Tacos, Amy’s Ice Cream and Mighty Cone (which is what I chose to have for lunch at the Tournament – it was one of the most delicious things I’ve had in a while – and how cute it it?)

The World Golf Championships also had a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks available for purchase. One o my favorite stops throughout the day was going to the Grey Goose lounge which made me feel like I was instantly transported to the coast. And they made me one of the most delicious drinks with a golf club stirrer. If hard liquor is not your thing, William Hill Estate Winery also had a selection of their wines in a Napa Valley-esque booth which overlooked the putting green with adorable adirondack chairs to slowly sip my wine while watching the golfers practice. Needless to say, there was plenty to eat and drink throughout the day and we loved doing a food and drinks tour of the course!

In addition, there was also a Fan Zone, where kids could race electric toy cars, experience virutal reality or have a golf ball designed with your logo on it. And for the fashionista in your life, you can find something for them at the tournament, as well. For example, this tournament had a Kendra Scott area off of one of the wholes with lots of Kendra Scott Goodies to purchase and a fantastic floral photo backdrop.

So what should I wear to the World Gold Championships tournament?

Well let’s first by saying what you shouldn’t wear. My recommendation is not to wear jeans or chambray of any kind – for me, it’s a respect thing for the course. In my opinion, as a woman you have more leeway than a man that’s when it comes to dressing for the course, especially as a spectator.

My recommendation would be to wear a pair of comfortable cotton shorts or linen shorts -something breathable – especially in Texas because it can be so warm and humid paired with an adorable sleeveless or short sleeve top. Or if you’re like me and prefer dresses/skirts, I would recommend wearing a lightweight dress in a preppy print – like the seersucker dress I wore to this tournament. Because it was a little chillier that morning, I ended up taking an emerald cardigan with me to stay warm throughout the day. As the afternoon went on, it got a lot warmer and I did not need the sweater but was so glad I had it in the morning.

One thing to note is that most of the PGA tours, allow you to bring in a small bag, but they must be a certain size and/or they must be clear. I love this clear bag from Amazon fashion which I purchased before going to the football game, last year. In my opinion, the PGA tour has pretty similar standards when it comes to what type of bag you can carry, but make sure to check out their website before going to make sure you can carry in your essentials. And last but not least, be sure to wear some really comfortable shoes because you will probably walk miles upon miles trying to catch a glimpse of your favorite golfer hit the ball off the tee.

Overall, I am so so grateful that I had the opportunity to attend this unique PGA tournament with my Dad and create this memory that I will never forget. I have to send a huge thank you to the PGA for allowing me this opportunity and I can’t wait to see who ends up winning the FedEx Cup in the next couple of months!
