Wedding Weekend

Sharing why I've been absent from this blog for a bit and why having confidence is a journey - Emily Bastedo from Something Gold, Something Blue

What a whirlwind the month of September has been! Between football games, work trips and a friend’s wedding, I have only spent a few nights in my apartment and I have felt like I have been neglecting this little blogging space of mine. I have so many fun things to share with y’all, but sometimes life gets in the way – make sure you are following along on Instagram (@EmilySGSB) to see my InstaStory/Snap/Video to see some behind the scenes vids. I don’t have as many trips planned over the next few months, so I am hoping to get back into a routine of post on here. What days do you like to read my posts? I am planning on 2 days a week and would love to know your input in the comments below!

Attending friend's weddings are always a ton of fun, espcially when you get to wear gorgeous and comfortable gingham print dresses. - Something Gold, Something Blue a curvy style blog

This dress immediately caught my eye when I saw it on the Eloquii website! I loved the two toned gingham and the cut, which I assumed to be flattering because of where the waist hit. When it arrived on my doorstep, I was even more enamored. And y’all the fabric is so soft which makes it extremely comfortable (perfect for dancing the night away – if only my shoes felt the same…). I had anticipated wearing this dress to a friend’s wedding in Kansas two weeks ago, but, unfortunately, I was unable to get the alterations I needed to the bust completed it time. No worries though I had my trust navy and orange floral Eloquii dress as a backup and it worked perfectly!

Since we are on the topic of alterations, I wanted to share one of my secrets – find a trusted alterations place and use them whenever you are uncertain about an item. You never know what magic they can make happen with that dress that is a little too big in one area, but you absolutely adore (cough, cough – this dress). They are also great at hemming items, especially skirts for me, to make them hit at the right spot on my leg to provide the shape I am looking for, but also for it to be extremely flattering and elongate my legs. If you find a great tailor, they can transform almost any garment into a unique piece of clothing that is made to fit your body.

If you live in the Houston area, I definitely recommend Quick Fix Tailoring Alterations on Durham in the Heights. They have an extremely fast turnaround and I find their prices to be reasonable (especially important if you start to get addicted to altering your clothes to fit perfectly).

I cant’ wait to bust this baby our for another function soon – maybe to go to the theater or dinner paired with a jean jacket or navy cardigan. Although it’s a bit summer, I think with a jean or leather jacket and some black booties, this dress may make a re-appearance this fall/winter. Do you have any items you are thinking about re-purposing from the summer to the fall?
