Life Lately – January 2018

Life Lately - January 2018 by popular Houston blogger Something Gold, Something Blue

Hey friends! Did January fly by or was it just me? I wanted to start a new monthly series here on SGSB to share some of my favorite things I bought/saw/loved this month and give a bit of a life update.

There are often times I am driving or taking shower and get these random ideas of blog posts that would be so much fun to write and share with all of you, but, unfortunately, I don’t have the time to share all of them, so I thought this may be a fun way to share some of these ideas/thoughts on a monthly basis. I would love to get feedback from you – is there a certain topic you would love to see? Without futrher ado, let’s jump in!

LIFE LATELY – JANUARY 2018

What I’ve been Buying or Loving this Month:

Saint Laurent dupe heart sunglasses

Power Suits (here and here)

A fun and flirty spring dress

Valentine’s Day skirt I just couldn’t live without

A custom designed phone case from CaseApp

My Beauty Favorites:

Kiehl’s Apothecary Preparations Serum (check out my IG Beauty Story on making my own it here)

Lash Extensions from The Lash Lounge Memorial Green

Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer

The most gorgeous eyeshadow palette (my favorite color is called bossy….)

Bath bombs made easy to relax after a long day

Throwback Post: I can’t believe it’s been 2 years since I wrote this post on my Body Positivity Journey. It’s interesting to go back and read it and feel like it reflects a lot of my personal views, but I’ve also had a lot of changes in my life and could write so many more posts about this…maybe, I will in 2018!

Favorite Blogger Posts of the Month:

These bagels are delicious and so easy to make

I’m loving Alissa’s weekend look

Isn’t Alice’s Valentine’s Day look adorable?

Loving these pretzel pizza bites by Elle

Meg’s beauty favorites are always spot on!

Such an important message (along with a cute outfit) from Liza

Favorite Workout Class of the Month: In addition to my pilates, barre and SoulCycle favorites, I tried a running class for the first time. If you saw my reaction on Instagram Stories, you know I don’t really run at all. I’ve ALWAYS hated running – in high school, achieving the 10 minute mile was the bane of my existence. I really have never enjoyed it, but I’ve always had this vision/goal in my mind to complete a triathlon and maybe even an IronMan. To achieve this, I decided I probably should start running a bit, so on a whim, I decided to take the Beginner class at RacePace.

This class may make me a running convert – it was so much fun, motivating and I never felt like I couldn’t do it. My only recommendation to anyone going into any new class is to go at your own pace for the first time. Try to stick with what the instructor is saying, but getting used to form, terminology and understanding what you can accomplish is the most important part of this first class.

Favorite Song(s) of the Month: I’ve had This Is Me from The Greatest Showman soundtrack on repeat! (I’m also working on a blog post similar to the one I wrote about for my favorite song from Dear Evan Hansen expressing what the song it means so much to me. Also, fun fact – the lyricists for both songs are the same amazing duo – Pasek and Paul)!!

What I’ve Been Watching: It’s award season time, which means I’m trying to see as many of the Best Picture nominees, as possible. I started my challenge by seeing Call Me by Your Name. And it was spectacular!!! If all the movies are this good, I’m definitely not jealous of all the voting members of the Academy…

P.S. If you love seeing movies, check out MoviePass. For $9.95 a month, you can see a movie a day. It’s definitely a great deal if you go to the movies once a month or more. And if you are a Costco member, you can get a yearly MoviePass subscription for under $90.

What I’m Reading this Month: I love to read and have been trying to make it a priority this month. I finished two Sophie Kinsella books (she’s one of my favorite authors) – Finding Audrey and My Not So Perfect Life. I would definitely recommend My Not So Perfect Life. It was a great read and I could definitely relate to the main character. Finding Audrey is a young adult novel and I would probably not recommend it. I didn’t know it was young adult when I picked it up at Half Priced Books a few weeks ago, but needless to say, I am probably growing out of reading YA novels and this one confirmed it. And after seeing the movie, I decided I had to read the book, Call Me by Your Name. I just started it, so a full re-cap will be in February’s Life Lately post.

January Travel Updates: I’ve actually been in Houston all month!! What?!? This hasn’t happened in a long time. My work travels start again on Monday and I’m so excited to be heading to L.A. for two weeks and will be between NYC and L.A. for the rest of the spring. If you have any recommendations for L.A., I would love to hear them!

I’m looking forward to sharing these life updates with all of you and hope you enjoy them! If you ever have any feedback, please let me know!
