Hurricane Harvey

Where to even begin? I had planned to have a happy, smiling outfit post up for y’all today, but I honestly could not sit myself down to write the post with all of the devastation that has hit my hometown the past few days.

Hurricane Harvey has been one of the worst storms in Houston’s history – the flooding in most of the creeks and bayous have broken the 500-year records – and the devastation this city has seen has been absolutely heartbreaking.

I have multiple friends and colleagues who have lost everything and I honestly don’t have the words to adequately express the sorrow I feel over this devastation. I can only imagine the heartbreak you are going through right now. If there is anything I can do to help, please do not hesitate to let me know!

I am so grateful to be safe after the storm and appreciate all of the calls, texts, messages and comments from all of you concerned about my well-being. I am so fortunate to be surrounded by so much love!! This whole event has made me realize what is truly important in my life – relationships with those I love. All of the other material goods in my life are just things. Yes, some have a sentimental value, but ultimately, there are only a handful of things in my apartment that I was truly concerned about these past few days.

If you are reading this or if you have seen the devastation on TV/the Internet and feel compelled, there are multiple organizations who are taking monetary donations to help those affected. I’ve created a list of resources below that are raising money for the hurricane relief efforts If you live in the Houston area and can safely get to a shelter, they need provisions for those displaced by the storm. I’ve heard they need towels, toiletries, socks, food and water, but be sure to check the Facebook/Twitter pages of the shelters near you to see what they need at that time.

The state of Texas and all those affected by Harvey continue to need your thoughts, prayers and positive vibes. The storm is projected to continue for the next few days and the flooding in the rivers/creeks/bayous are anticipated to overflow and cause more damage, which is hard to even fathom at this point. I know that the next couple of months are going to be difficult, but given the love and compassion I’ve seen over the past days, I know that Houston and all those affected will get through this together!

Sending lots of love to all of you!
