Wow – the holiday season is in full swing and I can’t believe the first weekend of December came and went so quickly. With my company’s holiday party on Friday night and then a Pilates and SoulCycle class during the day on Saturday, the beginning of my weekend was jam packed. When 5:30PM on Saturday rolled around and I needed to decide what I wanted to wear to a casual holiday dinner hosted by a family friend, I wanted something that looked pulled together, but was comfortable and easy to style (it may not have helped that I may have overindulged on the alcohol the night before and then thought it would be a great idea to go to two workout classes the next day…word to my future self – don’t schedule anything the day after the holiday party).
This red buffalo plaid shirt dress from Foxcroft was the perfect “starter piece” for my dinner ensemble. After choosing this dress, I was able to easily add accessories and other clothing items to look chipper and full of holiday cheer. The temperatures in Houston have really started to drop (at least for Houston – the Midwestern mentality of winter I have from when I went to school in Indiana is screaming that the high 40s is nothing, but I’ve been living in the South for too long now), so I knew I needed to bundle up a little bit. This faux fur vest, also from Foxcroft, was perfect for running into the house from my car and added a great texture against the buffalo plaid dress. I also wanted to wear a pair of tights because they keep me a bit warmer and I may or may not have had a large bruise on my knee from the night before (oooops). To add a bit of glam, I added a gorgeous crystal statement necklace and some platform booties. Overall, the night was fantastic, I was extremely comfortable and it was so amazing to spend some quality time with my family and friends and to eat a home-cooked meal.
Y’all let me tell you – it was so nice to have a home-cooked meal on Saturday – I cannot tell you how much it meant to me to eat a fresh meal made with love. Not counting Thanksgiving week, I can’t remember the last night I had a non-frozen food home-cooked meal since the summer. Since I travel as much as I do for work, I eat out every meal Monday to Thursday. Then to only go grocery shopping for me, myself and I for 3 days can be difficult, so I end up buying frozen and non-perishable foods to help sustain me during my pit stop at my apartment. And that’s if I don’t have plans to eat out with friends or family. Seriously…eating out can be a lot of fun, but, as with anything, it can get tiresome…. but it’s the lifestyle I signed up with when I took on my job. What have you recently had that was absent for your life for a while? Did you experience the same euphoria? Let me know in the comments below. Maybe, it’s just me! 😀
