Happy first (official) day of summer, y’all!! With the summer here, it means lots of pool and beach time (aka. swimsuit season). I used to be anxious for this time of year because I was so self conscious about how I looked in a bathing suit. Over the past few years, on my body positivity journey, I have learned to let go of my insecurities in a suit and just enjoy the time I have in paradise (easier said than done though…).
But, there was something so freeing about being surrounding with other body positive, gorgeous, fun gals this month in Mexico. It’s not often that I am surrounded by other plus size women and this trip was one of the first times that I was able to share clothes, stories and vulnerabilities with women who looked like me.
Multiple times throughout our trip, mainly when we were by the pool, we were approached by other hotel guests commenting on how adorable our bright colored suits were or how good we looked in them. Honestly, I think a lot of those comments were directed at our confidence in those items rather than the items themselves. I’ll never know for sure, but that is the theory I am going to continue to live with. We were not afraid to have a good time in our #beachbodies and we were not going to let our size dictate what we could and couldn’t do in a swimsuit.
So….while we were sitting at brunch, talking about how we wish others could experience this same level of comfort in their bodies (and how we wish we could feel this all the time), #BeachILookGood was born. By starting this hashtag, I am hoping it’s a place of inspiration for women of all shapes and sizes to celebrate living your absolute best lives because the you are not letting fear of wearing a swimsuit (dress, shorts, sleeveless top, you name it) interfere with the dreams you have.
We would love it if you would join in sharing your amazing summer bodies + outfits with us on social media using the hashtag #BeachILookGood !!
