Hey y’all, I am so sorry this post is up a day late. This work week really got the best of me and with the tragedy in Las Vegas, I haven’t had much motivation to push myself to write about something that is frivolous compared to what truly matters in life. To all those affected by this horrendous act, please know you are in my thoughts and prayers and if there is anything I can do to provide support, please do not hesitate to reach out.

Now on to the originally scheduled programming….today’s Work Wear Wednesday is all about how to transition your work outfit from day to night time. It’s something I have always strived to achieve. When I was growing up, I would always read articles in magazines that talked about how you can dress for both day and night. I always thought it was so glamourous and when I started working full-time, five years ago, I knew I wanted to do my best to look as effortless and ready for any situation that came my way.

Y’all – little did I know how much work was involved in finding the perfect outfit to transition from work to night. Also, can we be real for a second? With my travels and having dinners with my team, I often go to dinner in the exact same thing. If I did change (and I did it once), I would get so much flack for it (that’s what happens when you work on teams of mostly guys). So, I don’t wear outfits that go from day to night everyday – usually I try to reserve these outfits for Fridays (when I’m in Houston) or when I know I have a blogging-related event to go to in the evening. So, without further ado, here are three of my top tips for transitioning your look from day to night.

Start with a Closet Staple

A LBD anyone? It’s the quintessential closet staple and one of the easiest items to take from day to night. This Universal Standard Avenir Dress has a more classic, oversized shape with a unique detail of the different fabric on the skirt, but it’s not too over the top to be too flashy for work. But the skirt detailing gives a different dimension at night. In my experience, finding a solid color outfit works the best when going from day to night. Patterns can work, as well, but finding pieces to style it with is always a bit more difficult. When you have a solid color, you have a backdrop to showcase your personality through the cardigan/jacket and statement accessories.

Layer Up for Work

Adding a cardigan or blazer, like this one from Lane Bryant, is one way to make your staple piece look tailored for the office. For me, in this situation, it also provides a bit of shape to the outfit. Plus, it helps to keep me warmer (you know how cool offices can be).

Add Statement Pieces for the Night

When you are wearing a closet staple, like a LBD, it’s important to add glam and your personality through accessories. Say maybe by adding a pair of statement mules, fun colorful earrings or a metallic purse (or all of them together) to look flirty and ready for drinks.

I am so excited to announce that I am teaming up with the amazing brand behind this versatile, chic dress, Universal Standard, while they are in Houston for their Road Trip (and model search) to style some of their upcoming fall pieces and shop with all of you! If you are in the Houston area, I would love to have you join me at the Texas Wine School on Sunday, October 15th from 1-3PM! For more information, check out the Facebook Event: SGSB x Universal Standard Styling Event or shoot me an email! I hope to see all of you there!!!!
