Going to the Chapel

Let wedding season begin!! I attended my first wedding of 2015 this past weekend to celebrate one of my high school friends marry her high school sweetheart. I had a blast seeing my posse from high school and dancing the night away!! I even managed to not completely look like a fool while two-stepping….at least I hope so.

I am excited and honored to be celebrating with a few other friends at their weddings later this year, so I thought I would share one of my go-to wedding ensembles.

I always have a few key questions I ask myself when getting ready to attend a wedding:
Is my dress anywhere in the color family of white, eggshell, or cream?  I don’t want to look like I am competing with the
bride. Plus I love to wear colors and patterns…my philosophy, the bolder the better!
What color are the bridesmaid dresses? One time, I wore a teal dress to a wedding and the bridesmaids were in an almost
identical dress; needless to say there were a few awkward comments about trying to blend in to the wedding party….

How comfortable are my shoes?  I know that normally, by the end of a night of dancing, my shoes will be under the table and not on my feet, but it’s worth the try… (I am still on the hunt for a comfy pair of dressy heels. If you have found some, please let me know!!)

What’s the venue – do I need to bring a shawl to cover up during the ceremony? I think a lot of this comes from growing up Catholic, but when I attend a wedding ceremony at a church, I just feel more comfortable if I have a shawl to cover my shoulders….but this could just be me.

Do I need to bring a date?  I am not dating anyone right now right now and it can be stressful to bring someone to a wedding, especially if it is out of town. If I know a group of friends are going to be at the wedding, I will probably skip bringing a date. I think it’s a win-win. I save myself some awkward moments and questions about my date and I am saving the bride and groom from inviting one more person they don’t really know.

What are your thoughts on wedding attire, etiquette and everything in between? Have any fun wedding destinations you have been to or are planning to go to? (Psstt…I’m going to Delaware in May).

P.S. As you are reading this, I am currently in NYC (one of my favorite cities)… see a full re-cap of the trip here on Monday. If you can’t wait until Monday, you can follow along on Snapchat and/or Instagram @EmilySGSB

P.P.S. I am linking up with Favorite Fashion Fridays.

I can’t stand weddings if for the sheer fact I can never figure out what to wear. Love this red dress – it’s so fun!

    • Thanks Madaline! I totally agree – I have the hardest time finding a dress that is perfect for the occasion. When I found this one, I knew I had to grab it! 😀

What a gorgeous dress, and a beautiful shawl! I hate weddings for the shopping as well. Since we’re a pretty small community, you usually can’t wear the same dress for more than one wedding. It can get frustrating and expensive!

    • Thanks Mon! I totally understand your frustration. I have started using Rent the Runway for some weddings that are more formal. It allows me to rotate dresses without spending a fortune…

  3. I love the dress and love the shawl. I hate having to decide what to wear to weddings.

    • Thanks! I totally agree….finding something to wear to a wedding can be the most difficult event to dress for. There are SO many things to consider!

You look stunning! And what a great list of questions you ask yourself before deciding! I always fail in the shoe department and end up wearing something super uncomfortable. Oh! and I love your Jack Roger wedges, they look cute AND comfortable! May just have to invest in a pair this season. 🙂

    • Thank you Alice!! I love my Jacks- I would totally recommend investing! They took a bit of time to break-in, but are now super comfy, especially my flat sandals.

  5. Can I just say that color is GORGEOUS on you. I once showed up in a purple one shouldered dress to a wedding, and guess what? The bridesmaids were in a purple one shouldered dress as well. I was mortified! I thought the color of your wedding invitations were suppose to pay tribute to your wedding colors, so I assumed hers were navy. Talk about being so so wrong!

    • Thank you so much Michelle!! I would have assumed the exact same thing! I have before and I was wrong too…:) Hopefully, I can get it right this wedding season! (fingers crossed!)
