Transitioning to Spring + a Giveaway

Transitioning to Spring | Something Gold, Something Blue Blog | What to wear in the spring timefoxyclutch3So, I really have been obsessed with chambray tops, recently (evidence here and in Monday’s upcoming post). I even purchased a second one last week to add to my closet – I promise, it looks completely different (ok, maybe that is just my justification for buying another one….so lets just go with it!). Since it is starting to feel a lot like spring-time here in Houston, I wanted to share with you one of my favorite looks I have been sporting around town this year especially during the transition from winter to spring.

I found this skirt at Old Navy and loved how soft the fabric (they seriously feel like I am wearing pajamas) was and how it fit (the elastic waistband helps to accentuate my waist – aka. slimming effect). Since there is a bit of black in the plaid of the skirt, I decided to add some black accessories – my peep toe leather mules from Cole Haan and my Kendra Scott Rayne necklace that seems to go with about just absolutely everything in my closet! Now onto the star of the outfit – Mr. Fox – aka. the clutch. I am pretty obsessed with Kate Spade and all of the animal handbags that she has recently released….and the fox started my obsession. Every time I am looking for that extra pop in an outfit, the fox clutch is the perfect addition. It’s fun because of the fox design on the front, but also works with a lot of outfits because the majority of the clutch is black leather.

So y’all, as we embark on this adventure of the hot-cold then hot, no wait freezing cold time of year, I wanted to share my tips for conquering a seasonal transition:

  • Wear long sleeves (or at-least three-quarters length sleeves) – For warmth. Especially when we are going from winter to spring, I love to wear sleeves becuase I don’t have my tan on yet….just kidding…maybe, but in all seriousness – I like a sleeve during transitions to keep myself warm. This chambray top is perfect because I can easily roll up the sleeves if I start to get too warm.
  • Layer – Again, for warmth. In Houston, we can go from the low 50s in the morning to the 80s in the afternoon. And I know my friends in the Midwest know what I’m talking about. For me, it is all about that cardigan or light jacket that I can add when I start to get chilled.
  • Combine items that “typically” found in each season  – My mules are the perfect example of what to wear in the spring – open toed shoes. And the color of my skirt and the suede in the purse are items typically associated with the winter. Combining them together in an outfit is like standing with your right foot in one state and your left foot in another (sorry, the dork in me is having too much fun today).
  • Like everything, have fun with it! – Life if too short to worry about when the right timing is to wear a certain outfit! If you are comfortable in it and want to wear it, I say why not?

I have SO many excited things planned for SGSB this month that I can’t wait to share with all of you! (I’ve done multiple happy dances recently becuase I am that excited). Thank you, Jenn!! For the longest time, I steered completely clear of layering – I was concerned it would add bulk, but now I love it!
