Thoughtful (and Last Minute) Mother's Day Gifts | Something Gold, Something Blue

Can y’all believe that Mother’s Day is only 5 days away? Find an event that you and your Mom can enjoy together and buy tickets for it

Maybe your Mom loves going to the ballet or the theater or maybe her favorite band is making their way to your hometown soon? Wouldn’t it be great to get her two tickets and suggest that the two of you go together?

When giving gifts to my Mom, I try to find experiences that we can share together. We both have more trinkets than we know what to do with, but finding time to hang out with each other can be a bit of a challenge with both of our busy schedules. Setting a date for us to do something together makes sure we get together and makes our time together even more special.

Get your Mom a gift certificate for a cooking class

My Mom loves to bake! So, a few years ago, I found a cooking class venue that taught us how to make soufflés. During those 4 hours, we had such a great time learning the technique to perfect our soufflés and even got a good laugh when ours decided to cave in after coming out of the oven. It was the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon together (and we even got a few great pictures out of it). Similar to the ticket suggestion, above, it’s the experience and time spend together that was the gift for both of us.

Put together an at home spa gift box

I mean, what Mom doesn’t love a little spa day? Pull together some great products that she can use to pamper herself and relax a bit. If I was creating one, I would include a face mask, a Lush bath bomb, a beautiful bottle of nail polish, my Mom’s favorite iced tea and some Twizzlers Nibs (one of my Mom’s favorite candy).

Other things to include in the basket is a robe, slippers, body wash, a glass or tumbler to have her favorite drink in, or anything that would make her smile!

Write a heartfelt letter or card telling her how much you appreciate her

As I mentioned, over the past few years, I’ve been trying to move away from physical gifts that will most likely start to clutter the house and start finding activities that we can enjoy together. I also am a firm believer in affirmations and gratitude. This is where this gift comes in.

Have you told your Mom how much she means to you recently? Does she know how much you appreciated when she brought you soup when you weren’t feeling well? Or gave you advice about that boy in high school who crushed your heart? Or how much you appreciate the sacrifices she made for you and continues to make for you? Write it down. Find a nice card or beautiful stationary and write your Mom a thank you note for everything she has done for you. Maybe include a few pictures of the two of you and bonus points if you put it in a frame for her. I can almost guarantee that she will treasure this letter!
