Kentucky Derby Attire

The Kentucky Derby is tomorrow!! I can’t believe it has been 4 years since I have the opportunity to attend the Derby at Churchill Downs! It was a tradition at ND that the seniors would charter buses down to the Louisville to watch the horses race. It was such a fantastic experience and a great way to experience an American icon with my classmates before we walked across the graduation stage a few weeks later.

I always grew up watching the Triple Crown races and it is ones of my Mom’s favorite days of the year! As I have gotten older, I have started to understand the sport a bit more, but I’ll admit – I still choose a horse to win based on their name! Another reason that the Derby is one of my favorite days is because of the fashion!

When I think of Kentucky Derby attire, I think of bright, bold colors in fun prints and big hats! And this Lilly Pulitzer from Target dress is the perfect outfit for celebrating the Derby here in Houston! Topped off with my Monogram Derby Hat from Marley Lilly. It is the same hat that I wore 4 years ago! If I had the option, I would monogram everything! So having my hat monogrammed is just perfection!

The other two essentials for a perfect Derby day are a comfortable pair of shoes because a lot of walking will be required. I purchased these Sam Edelman wedges a few years ago and they are the perfect height for a decent amount of walking. The other thing I recommend is a hair tie. I am always messing with my hair and if it is extremely warm out, I want to have the ability to put it into a ponytail or bun. This bangle from The Bangle Bear is amazing because it is stylish and keeps the hair tie from digging into my wrist! I mean, seriously, how cute is it? I hope one day that I will have the chance to go back to the Kentucky Derby and sport a more extravagant hat!

I have a jammed pack weekend, which I am extremely excited for! Starting with Soul Cycle this evening, brunch with some blogger babes at Nordstrom in the Woodlands. Then the Beyonce concert – let me get in formation! I was luck to snag some tickets during the pre-sale! And of course, Mother’s Day! My Mom is one of my best friends and I am excited to spend the day with her and celebrate all of the things she has and continues to do for me! To all of the Moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day! I hope you have a fantastic weekend and are able to celebrate with those that mean the most to you!
