Hi everyone! I’m Jenna and I blog over at The Rose Garden. I am honored to be guest posting for Emily at SGSB today!
So here’s a little bit about me: I am a senior in college studying Biology with an emphasis in Pre-Med with a Chemistry minor. I am studying for the MCAT and applying to medical schools this summer. Another thing I am doing is job shadowing physicians since medical schools are now requiring 80+ hours of it before applying and being accepted. So today I am here with an outfit perfect for job shadowing a physician in a hospital. First things first you need to be comfortable! You will be on your feet all the time. Flats or a comfortable shoe is a must! You also need to wear something you can move around in. I find it best to wear a dress pant because hospitals are so cold and bare legs and dresses/skirts won’t cut it.
I try to wear a cardigan most of the time because it keeps me warm and if I get hot, which is rarely, I can take it off and still look business casual/professional.
Since I am just shadowing, I can’t have any physical contact with a patient so wearing something you don’t mind getting dirty isn’t really a problem. Except for the time when I was shadowing in the ER and a patient was spewing blood across the room and almost hit me, but other than that I have had no problems. It depends on what department you are in whether you want your hair up or down. I prefer to have my hair pulled back in the ER since you are always on the go and don’t have to worry about it getting in your face. That is one thing I noticed when shadowing is that ER nurses always have their hair pulled back, but yet again, I have no contact so my hair really doesn’t bother me.
