Let’s get down to business

Eloquii Faux Leather SkirtBusiness Casual Attire for the Young ProfessionalHey y’all!! Happy Tuesday! I hope you survived “the worst Monday of the year.” I didn’t think it was too bad at all, but then again, I didn’t have to travel for work this week – which immediately makes my day week better. There was no need to get up before the crack of dawn (except for the Lilly Pulitzer sale – priorities y’all…and it was only 6:30, which is much better than 4:30….hehe). I spent most of my morning getting caught up on all of the emails I missed while I was out on break and then started to plan the rest of my week! Also, it was my brother’s birthday (Happy Birthday, Ben!) and we had family dinner at a new steakhouse close to my place. It was so delicious! Since I am fully back into the swing of work, I thought I would share with you one of my business casual looks for the winter!

Leopard Necklace Francesca

If you have been following SGSB for a bit, you may know how much I love bold, bright colors and prints – especially for work (this post is all about advocating for color and this one has tips for nailing business casual). But, with all of the monochromatic looks I’ve seen recently, I decided to try a grey and black look.

When I saw this skirt from Eloquii, I immediately fell in love (let’s be serious, I fall in love with Eloquii pieces a lot….#obsessed). I didn’t realize how much I would love the quilted faux leather skirt until I tried it on. It has the perfect a-line cut to be extremely flattering and is extremely soft for faux leather. I also love that the faux leather adds a twist, but is still very classic, which makes me feel comfortable to wear it to work.

I wanted a sweater to wear with it and found this deep charcoal turtleneck from Old Navy. I seem to have been buying a lot of my staples from Old Navy – I may have mentioned it once, twice, ok, like 10 times before here, but I have really been loving the new designs from them and the price point is so perfect!

To add a bit of color and glam to my monochromatic outfit, I added this gorgeous leopard and sparkle bar necklace from Francesca’s and my red Tieks. During the Blog Societies holiday brunch in Houston (see Jaclyn’s post for all the details), I received this necklace from Francesca’s. I knew I loved it, but didn’t realize how many different outfits it worked with. Unfortunately, it is sold out now, but I would definitely recommend taking a look at Francesca’s jewelry line – it is affordable and adorable!

I hope the rest of your week is absolutely fantastic!!

P.S. Happy New Year! This is my first post of 2016 and I am excited for some new adventures (and outfits) this year! Given that the start of a new year is like a clean slate, I am going to try to uphold one resolution for this little bloggity-blog (although, there is always something I would like to focus on…). I am going to try and post twice a week again. I was keeping a pretty good schedule (almost 3 times per week) last spring, but then life and work got in the way and I cut it back to once a week to make sure I was providing all of you awesome readers quality posts. I have been wanting to go back to twice a week for a few months and with all of the ambition and support of New Year’s resolutions, I decided to take the plunge. Right now, I am planning on posting on Tuesdays and Fridays. I want to try this for at least the month of January and re-evaluate to see if it is possible. Thanks for sticking with me as I work out my schedule! I really love this place and wish I could dedicate much more time to it, but work, family, friends and life are important, as well and I have to find the right balance….so thank you for your patience!

Thank you!! One of my favorite things to do is to add an unexpected pop of something (color, bling, etc) into all of my outfits! I have to keep everyone on their toes! 😀

Thank you!! I totally agree – I think this is the “happy-medium” of the outfit. It would be great with glam make up, some extra jewelry and heels for a night out or worn a bit more casual!

Your outfit looks cute and your shoes look comfortable. As a substitute teacher, I need comfortable shoes to stand in all day. I also have a similar goal for my blog this year. Good luck to you! So far I’ve been able to keep it this week. I’m a new follower from Purex Insiders.

Nice to meet you, Brenda! And thank you for the kind words! I am all about comfortable shoes – if my feet are uncomfortable, I am not a nice person! Good luck with all of your blogging goals!
