Can y’all believe that we are only 11 days away from Christmas Day? It seems like this month has just flown by, but it also means that my two weeks off of work start in just a week! Wohoo! It has been one heck of a year and I am excited to have a little bit of downtime to recharge.

I’ll be honest, I had every intention of wearing this outfit last Friday to my company’s holiday party, but a massive winter storm had other ideas. With the intense amount of rain and the potential to flood extremely high, I decided to not risk venturing out. I was really bummed I didn’t get to see my co-workers and their significant others and celebrate the most wonderful time of the year.

When my company moved our holiday party to the Museum of Natural Science a couple of years ago, I knew that I would not be able to make the whole event in a pair of heels, so I started a tradition of wearing these gold glitter sneakers to the party. Not only do they add a bit of glam to every outfit, but they also keep my feet comfy (so I can dance the night away). I cannot tell you how many women at the party stop and tell me how jealous they are of my shoes.

I am a firm believer that you should always challenge the fashion rules (and probably all rules, in general) to fit within your needs and style. If that means wearing a pair of sneakers to a formal event – do it. Or maybe it’s wearing a sleek jumpsuit or pair of pants rather than a dress. Maybe you love to wear heels, can wear them all night and feel more comfortable in them (I know that’s not me, at all), but you go ahead and do you! At the end of the day, it’s all about wearing what makes you feel comfortable for that occasion. I want to challenge myself (and all of you) to make this your mantra for 2019 – wear what makes you happy! Not what others what to see you in or what you think they expect you to be in.

Here’s just a few of my favorite festive flats and sneakers that can easily be added to your holiday (or other formal outfit) – these shoes will help save your feet from all of the aches and will still help you to look absolutely fabulous (and flawless) for your event:

Feeling festive doesn't mean you have to wear heels. A great statement flat or sneaker makes the perfect accessory for holiday parties.
