Defining Beauty

First of all, let me apologize for being absent for so long. I came down with the flu (that’s actually what helped inspire this post) and then work got absolutely insane (60 hour weeks anyone?). Needless to say, I have not had nor made the time to post and I apologize.

While laying in bed with the flu, I kept myself busy by, of course, sleeping and watching television. One day, I caught a marathon of Catfish the TV Show on MTV, which got me to thinking about beauty and eventually this blog. I noticed a trend during the show; most people “catfished” because they were self-conscious about their appearance or who they really were. They were afraid to be themselves because people may not accept them and their flaws. You could also see the same characteristics in those on the opposite end of the relationship. Now, I can’t be one to judge – I have my insecure days and body image issues. I am a size 16 and have been one of the heavier girls in my peer groups for as long as I can remember. Please understand, I am in no way judging anyone for having insecurities because I have them too.

But, back to the main point….

The more I think about the show and life in general, the more I wanted to convey that this blog is meant to inspire you. Even though I love beauty products and love talking about them, I do not think that they can make up for confidence. Furthermore, I hope that I never make you feel like you need make-up to be beautiful. What makes you beautiful is your personality, your brain, your strength, your passions, and, most of all, your uniqueness – no one can be you, so shine!  My passion is like art that I can change daily but still use the same canvas. It also allows me to continue to learn and that is an important part of who I am. I am also passionate about Broadway musicals, my alma mater, cooking, college football, and so much more! Even though you are looking into one of my passions (and I hope you’ll see more of them in this blog), I hope you know I strongly believe that in God’s eyes and in my eyes, I am BEAUTIFUL because of who I am as a person! AND SO ARE YOU!! So, embrace something new to love about yourself and show the world what you are made of!
