Curves are Trending

Curves are Trending - Something Gold, Something Blue curvy fashion blog - Body postitivity, love your body, boutique+, jcpenney, what to wear to brunch, girly, summer outfit, prada, cole haanCurves are trending – am I right? I don’t think it is only just curves that are trending – I think that there is a shift in thinking to appreciate all shapes and sizes. AND I LOVE IT!! With the emergence of social media and the #ootd trends, cumulatively, our views on fashion are changing and really, anything goes! Wear what you want! Love what your in! Feel beautiful and confident in your skin!

Over the past few years, I started to adopt this philosophy more and more! I have always been one to wear what I love, but I used to be self conscious about it! NOT ANYMORE! Most of the time, I wear whatever the H-E-double hockey sticks (I just couldn’t resist throwing it back about 15 years) I want to! I love bold colors and prints, ballet flats are my jam, skirts/dresses are items that I just can’t live without and my clothes have to be comfortable! And, to be honest, it is just too time consuming (and emotionally draining) for me to be concerned what every person I come into contact thinks about a certain item of clothing I happened to pull out of the closet this morning! When I decided to start dressing for me, I noticed how many more risks I was willing to take, how the smile on my face grew larger and my confidence began to soar! I’m not saying it’s been easy – there are still plenty of times I stand in my closet thinking I have absolutely nothing to wear or at least nothing “stylish” enough to wear, but I have to remind myself that these are just clothes – they can always be changed. If I absolutely hate an outfit, yeah, I may have to wear it for the next 12 hours, but it will never have to happen ever again! I would love to challenge y’all and myself that throughout the month of June we choose to wear something you have been nervous to try (it could be a new outfit, an accessory, hair style, lipstick, whatever) for one day and see what happens! After you do it, I would love to hear how it went! I will definitely keep y’all updated on my progress – I am attending a conference in June that I have been anxious about for the past few months (especially when it came to what I was going to wear), so I am publicly stating here, that I am going to try not to stress about the outfit for those two days and wear what I feel comfortable and confident in! 😀 (psst…thanks for helping to keep me accountable, y’all!)

Real talk for a second, y’all – I’m sorry I’ve been a little MIA over the past few weeks both here and on social media! Every so often, I start to feel overwhelmed from life’s pressure and I have found it best to cut out all the non-essential stuff to re-energize and re-focus on what is extremely important to me. Trust me, it felt so weird to not post for a few weeks and communicate with y’all, but I really think it was a break I needed to reaffirm my love for this little blog and, maybe even – dare I say, fall back in love with working on it! There are so many behind the scenes things that go into these posts (including, sweat and tears – no blood yet, thank goodness) and sometimes the last thing I want to do after a long day of work to sit back down at my computer to blog. Blogging is so special and allows me to express my creative side, but it also causes my mind to continually race – there are always ideas popping into my head or I’m planning how to take a photo, this list could go on, but with my mind racing,  I wasn’t taking caring of myself and I knew I needed to pump the brakes and re-focus!

And you know what, y’all, I REALLY MISSED IT! And I missed being able to express myself and chat with all of you lovely readers who have so generously chosen to follow and support me on this journey! And I now remember why I started SGSB almost 3 years ago; to share my path towards self-acceptance and finding my sense of self through my style and, maybe, if it was meant to be, encourage others in the process! During this break I realized this is something I really love doing and totally worth all of those late nights!  I hope that you continue to follow along and understand that I try to put my heart and soul into my little corner of the Internet, but sometimes, I have to pause to – I guess, find ME again….sorry for the long sappy (and rambling) explanation, but I felt that is was important for me to be completely transparent about my hiatus.

On to some exciting news…..

I am starting an e-mail newsletter for SGSB and I am happy to say it is working! If you would love to know when a new post is published and for special content, including sale alerts – make sure to sign up here (or through the form on the right sidebar)! Also, since this is something new I am trying, please let me know if there is anything special you would like to see in it! Wishing you all a fabulous short work week!

You look beautiful! I love that shirt! I can definitely understand the need for a break. I’ve only been blogging for a year, but I also get overwhelmed, and taking a little break can bring back all the love for it.

I love the mix of leather and soft floaty pink fabric in this look! I probably wouldn’t have thought to combine the two and it looks so great!
